Challenge Reveal

Sixteen people shared their creations made for our 2026 Second Chance Fabric Challenge!

Sharon J @seamrippersharon started off the reveal with Pounds. This 28 x 30″ quilt represents the 125 pounds she’s lost in the last two years with the solid blocks, and shadow blocks represent the weight yet to be lost. Sharon used clothing that is now too large as well as a few donated pieces to make this quilt and quilted it on her Babylock Chorus.

JoElla M @jemquilter shared Brown is Beautiful, 2nd Chance in Brown. This boro-inspired collage with hand-painted applique measures 38 x 63″ and was pieced and quilted by hand in the kawandi style.

Kay S shared A Continental Journey. This t-shirt quilt utilized three different weights of fabric and measures 63 x 75″. Kay longarm quilted this herself.

Gwen F @flaquiltz created Retired and Going in Circles, a 26 x 46″ quilt. Gwen combined the cotton oxford shirts that her husband wore every day with bright bias tape from the workshop taught by Linda H in September. She quilted this on her Bernina 570 QE.

Irene R shared a 27.5 x 28″ quilt, with the Mini Satsuma pattern by Holly Clarke on the front and an improvisational back. She used thrifted pants, shirts, and fabric. Buttonholes, buttons, and clothing tags could be found on the back of the quilt. She quilted this herself.

Linda H @flourishingpalms created Way to Go, Virg! in honor of her father. This 62 x 76″ quilt of original design features her dad’s plaid sports shirts and one pair of boxers with a thrift store sheet as the background material. She walking foot quilted this on her Bernina 770 QE and added big stitch hand quilting.

Donna P @donnapquilts shared her 24 x 24″ quilt Challenge. She used denim and added colorful bias tape.

Karen T @yorkie3mom shared her Quilty Coat. She had everyone laughing with her story of rescuing this thrown-out queen size quilted bedspread, which she turned into a coat with the Elemental Coat pattern by Teresa Coates.

Cindy B @cbubblesnsews made Puppies and M&Ms for her Yorkie, Costa. She used scrubs and pajama bottoms to create this 26 x 30″ quilt, which she quilted on her domestic machine.

Dee A used a beach scarf her mom would wear on yearly trips to Daytona Beach to create her 24 x 24″ quilt. Her mom loved wearing scarves as a wardrobe accessory. Dee added some additional fabric and utilized hand quilting to accentuate some of the features printed in the scarf.

Mel T created Tied One On. She used ties and men’s shirts and used hand and machine ties.

Shloe K created Honey, Have You Seen My Shirt?

Patti R @pattirose6 shared Jean-erational Memories. This 79 x 82″ quilt was made from three generations of jeans – from Patti, her parents, and her three sons. The red accents were created with her dad’s shirts and pajamas. She used batting scraps and the backing was made from sheets her mom picked out when she moved in with her. Patti quilted this on her Janome M7.

Jane G @gonequiltinginflorida made Recycled Rhythms, a 55 x 59″ quilt designed using a modern twist on the Drunkard’s Path. Jane utilized used linens, women’s knit tops, and men’s button-down cotton shirts. The backing was made from a flat bed sheet and the binding from a man’s shirt. It was longarm quilted by Pam P.

Beth S @blue_dragonfly5 shared Papa’s Ties and Papa’s Tie Tips. Each measures 31 x 34″ and was created using men’s ties and silk background fabric. Beth faced three sides of each and used hanging tips of ties for the fourth edge. Papa’s Ties was created using paper pieced altered New York Beauty blocks and features machine appliqued circles. Papa’s Tie Tips is made of diagonal strips with tie tips sewn into the seams. Beth walking foot quilted both quilts.

Betty S @zcabed shared Tablecloth Repurposed, measuring 60 x 60″. It was longarm quilted by Linda W. Betty had enough tablecloth left over to make a tote bag!
