Twenty-one members and three visitors met on June 13 for the monthly meeting of the Central Florida Modern Quilt Guild at New Life Christian Church in Wildwood.
Our bylaws required two additional updates to meet the requirements of the MQG, our parent organization. The latest edition of the bylaws can be found in the Documents section of the website.
The July 11 and November 14 CFMQG meetings will be held at the Villages Public Library at Belvedere. The location has been updated on both our website calendar and Discord calendar. Other meetings will be held at New Life Christian Church as usual.
We are not creating a QuiltCon Community Outreach Challenge quilt this year. The group quilt started a few years ago will be our newest thank you to New Life Christian Church for providing us a meeting location. We will enter this quilt in QuiltCon!

Our next sew-in is Saturday, June 27 at 9:30 at Pinellas Library. The Sew ‘n’ Learn topic this month is Modern Traditionalism Collage Quilts, which will be discussed from 12:30-1 pm. Bring examples or thoughts for discussion!
In September and October, sew-ins will be held on the third Saturday of the month, so mark the change in your calendars.
Karen E and Jane G will be planning programs and workshops. Let them know if you have ideas for the future.
Our next Sleep at Home retreat will be November 5 – 7 at the Salvation Army in Lecanto, and our next sleepaway retreat at Luther Springs will be April 30 – May 3.
The guild presented Linda H and Karen E with gifts as a thank you for their time and vision in creating CFMQG. We are grateful for their years of leadership of our wonderful chapter!

Show and Tell
Betty S @zcabed shared Triangulation, made using Allison Glass’ Tessellation pattern. Betty quilted this herself using a walking foot.

Guest Linda W showed off a quilted coat, made from a premade quilt from the store as a template. She plans to make another using her own appliqued flower motif.

Mary W shared several projects. Mary’s first quilt was a Christmas quilt, and she also brought a patriotic quilt and two patriotic quilted bags.

Cindy B @cbubblesnsews shared Emerald Birthstone, measuring 17 x 17″ and made using freezer paper templates from MJ Kinman’s Birthstone Series. Cindy made this as part of a class she took to learn a new technique.

Jane G @gonequiltinginflorida shared three 11 x 14″ pieces made using Zen Chic’s Petal Pop patterns. Jane used raw edge applique and attached these to fiberboard with acid free double-sided tape. She then set them into gesso board frames.

Beth S @blue_dragonfly5 shared Sea Shell, made using raw edge applique. Beth quilted it with a walking foot and invisible thread.

Linda H @flourishingpalms shared Cipher, a 55 x 67″ quilt of original design. She started by piecing together 30 12.5″ drunkard’s path blocks featuring appliqued bias tape. She then slashed through the quilt top nine times, rejoining the sections in staggered positions. She used a combination of walking foot quilting and free motion quilting on her Bernina 770 QE, and added big stitch hand quilting.

Karen E @sunrayatplay created The Wave. This quilt is 46 x 57.5″ and was made with four of the Handloom fabrics from the MQG Windham Fabric Challenge for QuiltCon 2027. Karen made the quilt in honor of the Hawkeye Wave from Iowa fans at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City, Iowa, where 70,000 fans wave in unison to the children and families overlooking the game from the UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital at each University of Iowa game. Karen said, “The circle represents the crazy circle of life these families experience when their lives turn wonky by illness – often held together by the threads of love and hope.” Karen quilted it herself on her Janome 9450 and it also features four different thread weights and the use of 8 wt metallic perle cotton.

Program
Mel and Janice T presented a program on Modern Collage. They shared the different approaches to collage and then let everyone lose to play with making their own collages.
