April Meeting

Twenty-three members attended the April 11 meeting of the Central Florida Modern Quilt Guild in Wildwood at the New Life Christian Church.

Co-President Betty S provided a welcome and read the purpose statement:

“The Guild supports and encourages the growth and development of modern quilting through art, education, and community.”

Sew-in Coordinators Beth S and Donna P announced that our next sew-in will be a Zoom sew-in on April 25 from 8:45-11:45 am.

Program Chair Mel T announced that June’s program will be on Modern Collage. In July, she is hoping to have a speaker about the history of sewing machines.

Workshop Chair Jane G has a workshop planned following the September meeting. Taught by Linda H, the topic will be bias tape.

Retreat Coordinator Patti R still has some spots available for the May 1-4 Luther Springs retreat. There is also another Sleep at Home retreat planned for November.

Show and Tell

Karen T @yorkie3mom shared Pineapple Block, measuring 96 x 96″ and made using a foundation paper piecing pattern. Karen quilted this on her Janome 9400.

Jane G @gonequiltinginflorida shared the first of four quilts, a 47 x 47″ quilt made from a large log cabin using 2.5″ scrap strips. Jane quilted this on her domestic machine.

Jane’s second quilt was made using the Zen Chic Mega Star pattern and was longarm quilted by Pam P.

Jane also created a quilt by adapting Gingiber’s Thicket pattern, also longarm quilted by Pam P.

Jane’s final share was a 62 x 62″ quilt made using Eudaimonia Studio’s Wayfinder pattern. Pam P also longarm quilted this project.

Gwen F adapted a wall hanging pattern to create Freely Give. Sew Kind of Wonderful’s Posh Santa pattern utilizes the mini Quick Curve Ruler, but Gwen used the full size ruler to create a larger quilt. She quilted this herself on her Bernina 570.

Linda T @blu24berry shared Rain Drops, made using a pattern from Modern Quilt Studio. This quilt measures 84 x 96″ and Linda quilted it on her Bernina 153 QE.

Linda T’s second quilt was Night Lights, measuring 65 x 85.” This quilt was made using a pattern by Stacy Day in American Quilter‘s May 2017 issue. Linda also quilted this on her Bernina 153 QE.

Betty S @zcabed shared Kaffe Pixeled. This small quilt measures 18.5 x 18.5″ and is made from 0.5″ finished blocks. Betty quilted this on her domestic machine.

Program

This months program was Experience QuiltCon, by Mel T. Mel asked QuiltCon attendees from CFMQG to send in photos of quilts that they thought were the funniest and the “next big idea.” The presentation will be posted soon on the Members Only page.
