QuiltFest JAX is put on by seven area (Jacksonville, Florida) quilt guilds, including the Jacksonville chapter of the Modern Quilt Guild. The show was on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, September 19-21. This year is the first time a Modern Quilt category was offered, judged and displayed. QuiltFest displayed 77 quilts entered in modern!
Six quilts belonging to four members of Central Florida MQG appeared in QuiltFest. Central Florida MQG members whose quilts were shown belonged to:
Jane G

Jane’s quilt was “surrounded” by quilts made by Lisa Hamilton of the JAX MQG.

Linda H

Linda made this quilt in a CFMQG “Dancing With the Wall” workshop with Irene Roderick.

This is Linda’s Feelin’ Groovy maximalist quilt that was shown at QuiltCon 2024, Raleigh, in the Maximalism Exhibit.

Beth made this quilt in Irene Roderick’s “Dancing With the Wall” workshop.

This is Beth’s Light From Within quilt that was displayed at QuiltCon 2024, Raleigh. It earned Beth a “Judge’s Recognition” ribbon at QuiltFest.

Rosemary, our CFMQG president, made this quilt during a CFMQG workshop with Carole Lyles Shaw.

The first place/blue ribbon winner in the Modern category was awarded to Janel Bendis of the JAX MQG.

Scroll through the slide show (below) to see second place, third place, and honorable mention ribbons in the Modern category. They were all awarded to Candi Lennox @candipursuits of JAX MQG. A close-up picture of Candi’s domestic machine walking foot quilting on her second-place quilt, shows what impressed the judge. Candi also won an honorable mention ribbon in the Small Quilts category.
Also receiving a “Judge’s Recognition” was Susan Skatoff, the founder and president of the new (18 months-old) Palm Beach MQG. This quilt is Susan’s first entry, ever, in a quilt show!

One of the most colorful aisles in the show was this, displaying “Maze” quilts made in a Malka Dubrawsky workshop by members of JAX MQG.

QuiltFest JAX is put on by a huge volunteer team. Thank you to all the guilds involved, and to the QuiltFest team for offering a Modern category.
