CFMQG Retreat 2021 Curtain Call

Eighteen members met at Luther Springs Friday, November 5 and sewing machines were humming, ideas were exchanged, observations made and multiple “ta da” moments took place. Ladies were busy from Friday to Monday and there was much accomplished.

The official photo of the eighteen attendees for the 2021 CFMQG Retreat at Luther Springs Camp and Conference Center near Hawthorne, Florida, November 5-8.

The weather outside was dreary but the sun was shining brightly inside as everyone enjoyed the new “room” for sewing. Spacious and well lit, loads of electrical outlets and natural light allowed everyone to create a temporary sewing station for the weekend and accomplish some items on their individual “to do” lists. Below is a slide show of some of the works in progress moments during the weekend.

So much sewing. Was there anything accomplished?

In answer to that question, there were several “ta da” moments throughout the weekend. Photos below. Some were completed projects, some were completed flimsies, some were completed blocks and some were were completed steps of a much bigger quilt to come! We even had some “make and take” projects! So everyone went home with something “done.”

@fatquarteraddict worked with her Crazier Eight Ruler to create this flimsy
Mary made a Monopoly quilt with matching coasters!
@foleyderenne completed Simply Modern’s Whirlygigs by Wendy Sheppard @ivory_spring
Chuckles, a pattern by @elizabethagh was completed by Janice
@flaquiltz completed Bat Moon Rising from Mini Wonderful Curves using the mini QCR and Pointed Comments by @tamarinis Pointed Comments used fabrics from @alisonglass and @afewscraps

There was time for walks, nourishment and even a “stretch” or two.

And to add more applause to the weekend we had our very own SHOW and TELL moment!

Dee @quilterdee shared many of her pandemic completes. In order:
TIED WITH A RIBBON a 60 by 60 quilt by Confetti Quilt.
DOTS AND DASHES a Quilt Along with Nicole Dakesiewicz measuring 74 by 86.
FINGERPAINTS a Quilt Along with Quilt Fort Company measuring 66 by 66.
WIGGLE ME COLOURFUL measuring 60 by 70 made with a jelly roll.
And a photo of Dee with her 500 HST’s for SNIPPETS by Cotton Way. This quilt will measure 84 by 95 once it is done. Dee made significant progress on her HST’s.

Ta Da! We came retreating and we made modern!

  1. Retreat was wonderful! Even though the weather didn’t cooperate, and we’re really lucky that it didn’t snow (!), it was cozy fun in that room – from early morning to late, late night. Special thanks to Cindy and Karen T. for their planning efforts, and Dee too for what she did for the 2020 retreat that didn’t happen. Hope to see everyone again at retreat in September 2022!
