Twenty people, including one visitor, gathered for the October meeting of the Central Florida Modern Quilt Guild on Saturday, October 18 at the New Life Christian Church in Wildwood.

Vice President Linda H led the meeting and reminded everyone that QuiltCon entries close at 11:59 pm on October 31. Ruby Star Society is hosting the following theme days at QuiltCon: Spirit Day, Jump Suits, and Lounge Wear.
CFMQG is likely going to need to raise our chapter dues to cover the rising cost of our dues to the MQG. The specific proposal and member vote will likely take place over email. Be on the lookout for an email with a specific proposal, followed by a voting link later.
CFMQG is planning to host two sewing sessions on Discord. These Sewacord sessions will be on November 20 and December 18 from 7 – 9 pm. You’ll be able to sew at home and join the Discord session from your device to enjoy socializing.
Sew-in Coordinators Donna P and Beth S announced that the October sew-in will be on Saturday, October 25 at the Wildwood Masonic Lodge from 12 – 4 pm. Please note the change in location and time. This sew-in follows Beth’s workshop that morning.
Retreat Co-Coordinator Judy D provided an overview of the Sleep at Home retreat, which will be held at the Salvation Army in Lecanto from November 13 – 15. Participants will have access to the sewing room from 8:30 am – 8 pm, and equipment can be left in the locked room overnight. Lunch will be provided each day.
The Designing Through the Decades challenge reveal will occur at the November meeting.
Committee Co-Chair Sharon J reported that our QuiltCon Community Outreach Challenge quilt has been entered for QuiltCon 2026.
Jeannette M announced that the Lake County Quilt Guild is hosting their annual Fantastic Quilt Show on November 14 and 15 at the Venetian Center in Leesburg. Admission is $10.
This month’s Tenets ‘n Techniques topic was Upcycled and Recycled. Beth S shared an example quilt that includes flour sack material.
