Twenty-nine people, including three visitors and one new member, met on Saturday, January 11 for this month’s meeting of the Central Florida Modern Quilt Guild.

President Rosemary V welcomed everyone and provided a reminder of the CFMQG Purpose Statement:
“The Guild supports and encourages the growth and development of modern quilting through art, education, and community.”
Membership Chair Dee A introduced our three visitors and new member Cindy H, and they told us a little bit about themselves and their quilting background.
Program Chair Jane G announced our February and March meeting programs. In February, Shloe K will present the Introduction to the 2025 Challenge. In March, Linda T will present Modernizing a Traditional Quilt Pattern.
Rosemary V announced on behalf of Linda H that the QuiltCon awards ceremony will be streamed this year. This is a great opportunity to see some of the QuiltCon quilts even if you aren’t attending QuiltCon.
Nominating Committee Chairs Betty S and Gwen F have been hard at work finding a slate of candidates for our upcoming March election. At the meeting, we were still missing a candidate for President. During and after the meeting, two members put themselves forward as candidates for Co-President, so we now have a full slate of candidates. Thanks to all those who are willing to serve!
Sew-in Coordinators Beth S and Donna P announced that we have a sew-in on Saturday, January 25 from 10-4 at the Belleview Public Library. A lunch of homemade beef barley soup and bread will be served at 12 pm. Please add your name to this list if you are planning to eat lunch, so that Donna can plan an appropriate amount of food. Attendees for lunch are asked to bring a $3 cash donation to help cover costs, or there is also opportunity for someone to bring cookies instead. You may also attend and bring your own lunch! Following lunch, the Show and Learn topic will be Quilt Labels. If you are able, bring examples of quilt labels for the discussion. Sew-ins are a wonderful opportunity to socialize and get to know other CFMQG members. Feel free to attend even if you don’t have a project to work on!
This month’s program was a virtual presentation from Wonderfil Thread, all the way from Edmonton, Canada. Wonderfil Specialty Threads: Threaducation 101 was very informative, both about thread and thread production in general, as well as Wonderfil’s own products.
There was no Show and Tell or Tenets ‘n Techniques at this meeting, because of the length of the virtual program.
Reminders
- Sew-in at the Belleview Public Library at 13145 SE Hwy 484 in Belleview from 10-4. Lunch will be served. Please fill out this form if you plan to attend!
