It’s time to begin making our CFMQG contribution to the QuiltCon 2025 Community Outreach Challenge! Cindy B and Dee A are chairing our effort this year, a quilt called Bars and Lines. Below is a sketch of the design, as well as a message from Cindy with instructions for those who would like to participate.

Sewing Instructions for the Outreach Challenge Quilt: Bars and Lines
After a wonderful day of planning, sorting, and cutting of the fabrics for our quilt entry for QuiltCon 2025, we are ready for volunteers to sew a block or two! We will be passing these out during the next sew-in July 27th. If there are any remaining, I can be contacted to make arrangements to get one to you after that Saturday.
- Please let us know which block number you selected to be working on so we can keep track of who has which blocks. Blocks are numbered on the sticky note pinned to the fabric pair. **Please save and pin the sticky note to the finished block before turning it back in so we know where it goes!
- Use a scant ¼” seam.
- Press toward the dark side using a starch such as Best Press or other starch product.
- *Tip* For those who are sewing the blocks with long bars or lines, it is recommended to sew each seam from the opposite direction to avoid any curving the straight line.
- The finished measurement is on the sticky included with the fabric you choose. It is very important to have the finished block width finished at the correct measurement as assigned. We prefer that the length of the finished block be longer then assigned, so we have wiggle room when putting the quilt together.
- Bars and Lines may be placed moderately wonky, but no curves or other shapes that do not look like bars or lines, and they do not need to be uniformly cut or spaced in your block. The draft picture is above. Please find your block number that is on each of the 30 blocks (ignore all the other scritch scratches! I wasn’t about to redraw this for the umpteenth time!) before sewing your block. You are not expected to make the block look just like it is drawn in the picture but get an idea of which way to sew the bars and lines…this is only a mockup. We want you to have fun with it! The blocks are simple but will look awesome with a little “flavor” of variations of bar/line sizes and maybe tipped or cut slightly wonky.
- You must use only the two fabric pieces given, and please return any extra leftover fabric with the finished block in the bag given.
- Please turn in your finished block by the August meeting if possible, and no later than our September meeting. If you need to drop it off or have one of us come get it, you can call me (Cindy) and one of us will can pick it up in the case you are unable to make any of the meetings.
- Please call me, if you have any questions! (Note: Cindy’s contact info can be found in the membership directory on the Members Only page of the website.)
