Vice President Linda H shared information about the challenges announced by the MQG for QuiltCon 2025. The American Patchwork & Quilting Transparency Challenge details can be found here, while the Windham Ruby+Bee 2025 Fabric Challenge features a color palette selected by featured speaker Tara Faughnan and can be found here. Please note that, unlike in previous years, there are no free fabric bundles available for the Fabric Challenge. However, the link does have a list of shops that carry this fabric line.
Media Coordinator Courtney S reminded members that Show and Tell forms should be filled out for all Show and Tell items – this allows us to share details in the blog and on social media. You can print these from the Members Only page of the website, or copies are usually available at meetings if you forget. The password for the Members Only page has also changed – please see Rosemary’s previous email, or contact Rosemary if you need the new password again.
Program Chair Jane G announced upcoming programs, including one switch to the previously announced schedule:
- June 8 – Quilty Solid: An App for Color Fans by Courtney S
- July 20 – Fabulously Fused by Betty S
- August 10 – Choosing a Category For Your Quilt by Ardie W
Unfortunately, due to a technical issue, we had to cancel our scheduled May program with Alex Byrne. We’ll attempt to reschedule with Alex for the future!
Show and Tell
Bonnie B @bonniequiltsaway shared a quilt called Seafarer, which she foundation paper pieced using scraps. Bonnie quilted this on her longarm.

Bonnie shared a second quilt, entitled Upscale Plaid, made from a pattern by Lo & Behold Stitchery. She also quilted this on her longarm. Both of Bonnie’s quilts feature a blanket backing.

Beth S @blue_dragonfly5 shared Red Plaid, a 79″ x 86″ quilt made using the Plaid-ish pattern by Erika Jackson. Beth made this quilt entirely from old scraps of hundreds of fabrics. She used Quilters Dream Select Poly batting and finished the quilt with corded striped binding. Beth quilted this on her longarm.

Linda H @flourishingpalms shared a pillow she made in Jo Avery’s “Organic Improv Applique” online workshop. It measures 20″ x 20″ and was improv cut. Pieced blocks were joined to create a background onto which improv cut leaves and vines were hand-appliqued. Big stitch quilting with 12-wt thread was added and the pillow was finished with a linen backing and striped binding.

Linda T @blu24berry shared Sparrows, a 64″ x 70″ quilt she made by modifying a pattern. She omitted blocks to create negative space, and changed colors and placement of the birds to create visual interest. She quilted this on her Bernina 153.

Linda T also shared Spin It Again. This 46″ x 58″ quilt was made using freezer paper piecing and the Wheel of Fortune block pattern by Lee Heinrich. Linda modified the block by changing the placement of solids and prints. Linda also quilted this with her Bernina 153.

Rosemary V @franticquilter shared Lilly Sharpe, measuring 52″ x 52″ and made during the Modern Quilt Studio Secret Agent Mystery Quiltalong. This quilt features transparency and was made Benartex fabric. Rosemary improv pieced leftovers to create the back, including the code used to create the front. She quilted this on her Husqvarna.

Other Opportunities
On May 25, Rosemary and Jane will lead a planning meeting to discuss future program and workshop ideas. The meeting will be held at The Villages Public Library at Belvedere, 325 Belvedere Boulevard, from 9 to 11 AM. Please consider joining them! Wrap the World with Quilts is a non-profit project collecting 15,000 quilt blocks from quilters in the United States, Australia, and Europe for an international art quilt exhibit in support of the Ukrainian people. Quilt blocks should be raw edge unfinished 12.5″ x 12.5,” can be pieced or appliqued, and should have a theme of sunflowers, hope, peace, and love.
