Thirty-one people attended our meeting Saturday morning at New Life Christian Church in Wildwood.

Show and Tell

Beth S @blue_dragonfly5 shared three pieces during Show and Tell. The first was Solar Flare, a 43″ x “48 quilt of original design. Beth created inset circles with a freezer paper technique and used the Quilt-As-You-Go method. Solar Flare was quilted on her domestic machine with a walking foot. This quilt features narrow 1/8″ inserts, overlapping circles with transparency, couch yarn accents, and a corded binding. Beth originally made the circles for teaching her inset circles workshop last year.

Beth’s second quilt, Wind Tunnel, was a project started in an improv workshop, Dancing With the Wall, taught by Irene Roderick @hixsonir. Wind Tunnel is also an original design by Beth, and features both walking foot and free motion domestic machine-quilting. Beth noted that this quilt was constructed from different-sized blocks that needed to be puzzled together. It also has couch yarn accents and a corded binding.

Beth’s final share was Angle Play, a 15″ x 15″ original design started in the What’s Your Angle? workshop taught by Karen E @sunrayatplay. This quilt was constructed from a freezer paper self-drawn pattern, and is highlighted with narrow 1/8″ inserts of black-and-white-striped fabric. All three of Beth’s quilts were made with wool batting.

Next to share was Rosemary V @franticquilter, with a 90″ x 92″ unnamed quilt made using the Quadsville pattern by Jamie Siel @sewbrainy from the MQG website. Rosemary quilted this with “semi-straight” quilting using a walking foot on a Husqvarna machine, and added “mindful” big stitching using #8 Wonderfil Perle cotton. This quilt was made with Quilter’s Dream wool batting.

Ardie W @fatquarteraddict shared a 47″ x 57″ quilt named Purple Ribbon. Ardie used a freezer paper technique to create this quilt and quilted it on a Handi Quilter.

Serena B shared quilting samples she worked on as part of a class by Christa Watson @christaquilts on modern machine quilting. This was a great reminder that the best way to get comfortable with quilting is to just keep practicing!

Becky C @rchianese26 shared two quilts with the group. The first was Pods, created during a Maria Shell @mariashellquilts class.

Becky’s second quilt, Landscape, was made as part of a guided improv class from Misty at Missouri Star Quilt Co.

Bonnie B @bonniequiltsaway shared Colorwash, a 45″ x 54″ quilt inspired by Terry Rowland @trowstudios. Bonnie used a blanket as a backing with no batting and quilted this on her Janome QMP 18.

Deanna A shared a 38″ x 38″ quilt she named Can’t Believe I Pieced the Whole Thing! This quilt was started during Beth’s Colorplay workshop and was quilted by A Quilting Palette.
Program
Our program this month was a presentation on virtual workshop opportunities for next year, with 21 different workshop opportunities offered by 10 different instructors. The slide show can be found in the Members Only section, and has clickable links for more information. Members should make note of their favorite options, and keep an eye out for a survey to be sent via email on August 16. The Program/Workshop Committee will use the survey results to determine which instructors to book for next year. The survey will remain open until August 25, but it would be helpful if members can respond earlier!
