February Meeting Notice

It’s here, our February meeting scheduled for Saturday, February 11, 2023. Our topic will be Modern Traditionalism. Here is your chance to see and discuss how to take a traditional quilt block and apply modern design elements.

Individuals that have created quilts or blocks utilizing Modern Traditionalism components are asked to bring ONE example to share and tell the membership what you did to accomplish the end result. Below you will see a close up, artist info and the final quilt from 2022 Quilt Con in the Modern Traditionalism category.

In addition to Modern Traditionalism, there will also be a Show and Tell. Please arrive early for photos and complete the Show and Tell form. This information is necessary to provide valuable information on our blog and Instagram. You certainly don’t want Rosemary making things up when she puts out the blog.

February is a big month as it is also Quilt Con. For those attending Quilt Con in person, there will be a photo of CFMQG along with our charity outreach quilt at 4:15 PM on Friday, February 24th. Meet at the quilt. After the group photo, at 5:00 PM is an All-Florida MQG Meet-Up. Go to Bar 210 near the registration desk of the Westin Peachtree Plaza. Our meet-up, with all MQG chapters in Florida, was arranged by Cathy Wilson, president of the South Florida MQG. This is a great opportunity to mingle with like minded souls from the sunshine state.

Attendees to Quilt Con are also asked to take three photos of your favorite quilts and their makers. Identify which one you would vote for as your “People’s Choice” and be prepared to share at our March 11th meeting. Photos need to be sent to Karen by March 5th so she can prepare the slide show for the meeting.

February is also when 66 quilts donated by members of CFMQG will be given away at Sumter County World’s Greatest Baby Shower! This event is for expectant mothers, parents, grandparents, caregivers, and friends and you are invited. Healthy Families Florida  on February 23 from 4:30 to 6:30 PM at the Sumter County Fairgrounds, 7620 State Road 471, Bushnell. Thank you to all our CFMQG members who made quilts for the little ones!

As a reminder, there will not be a February Sew-in. the “Colorplay” workshop still has a couple of openings and at the March meeting, sign-up for the workshop “What’s Your Angle” will be available. Keep it modern!
