November 19 – Monthly Sew In!

Saturday, November 19th will be our monthly sew-in at the Oxford Community Center from 9 AM to 3 PM. Come for part of the day or stay all day. This is a fine opportunity to be with your fellow “peeps” and talk quilting, laugh and maybe do some sewing. Bring your own lunch or plan to eat out near by.

Baby quilts….are you busy creating, trying out some new techniques and coming up with something that a new baby will fall in love with, maybe carry around as a toddler? Let’s hope you have one or two in the works as our goal is to have 40 quilts by the January meeting. Remember babies love everything as do their parents!

For those that may not wish to do their own quilting, Pat G has offered to quilt three baby quilts free of charge to members that contact her. It will be an edge to edge design. If you are interested in this gift of kindness, email Pat

Mark your calendar for our Holiday Social on Saturday, December 10th at 10 AM at New Life Christian Church This is always a fun event with seriously good food and lots of laughter. Wear your holiday finest and plan on having a jolly good time.

Things to bring for the Holiday Social:

  • A shareable snack/food that serves about 6.  Bring any serving utensil needed, as we will not have access to those.
  • Your own cup and your beverage of choice for the cup!
  • A wrapped quilt-related gift (otherwise unmarked).  This should be in the cost range of $12-$15 for you, and may be something you make yourself if you wish.  This gift is optional for those who want to participate in the “Pass the Gift Exchange.”

Basic rules of “Pass the Gift Exchange” Participants who bring a wrapped gift, draw a number and when their number comes up…they can select one of the gifts from the gift table. The gift is opened and becomes available for “relocation” up to three times by other individuals with numbers that follow your number. Being number one may or may not be desirable as you have one last opportunity to view the selection of unwrapped gifts or keep what you already have. And just for what it is worth, there is usually one or two hot ticket items that everyone seems to desire – but once it has been relocated for the third time, it no longer is available to participants. Keep in mind, the wrapping of the item may be helpful or a distraction.

And finally – a HUGE Congratulations to Central Florida Modern Quilt Guild on their tenth year anniversary! Some folks haven’t aged a bit. The photo below is from the archives with some of the first brave souls to lead us down the path of Making Modern in Central Florida! The very first meeting was at Linda’s house in November 2012! Well done everyone!

The calendar for 2023 has been updated to reflect all the meeting topics, locations, times as well as all the workshops. This tends to be a valuable resource when you are keeping track of what is happening when. We do our best to keep it accurate, but if you see an error, please let us know.

Don’t forget DUES for 2023 are being collected either at the Sew-in, the December Holiday Social or through the mail. Your $40 check can be mailed to Karen. Email Karen E. for specific details, or check our Membership Roster for her mailing address.

See everyone on Saturday, the 19th and if not then – on Saturday, December 10th. Wear your name tag! And Keep Calm, Make Modern.
