Even though not all of our quilty snowbird friends have returned to the area, we had a great turn-out for our September meeting, with 29 in attendance – one person was a visitor.

Show and Tell
Beth is entering this small quilt in Curated Quilts next mini challenge. She foundation paper pieced the design using Curated Quilts’ color palette, and spiral quilted it.
Themes for this issue are “paper piecing,” and “symmetry.” We expect to see her quilt selected for publication!
Inspired by Architecture Quilts
Mini quilts were made by members who participated in David Owen Hastings’ Inspired by Architecture virtual workshop on Saturday, August 27.
Sharing their projects, and explaining how their architecture photos were used as inspiration for their quilts were:
(L-R) Beth, Pat G., Ardie, Becky, Karen E., Irene, Patti, and Jane

Kantha (pronounced Khan-tah) Quilts
From April through August, President Karen, and Linda participated in the 2022 Alison Glass Stitch Club Kantha Sew Along featured on Instagram.
To help members understand what a Kantha quilt is, Karen brought an authentic Kantha from India. Kantha is a quilt that’s most often made with worn saris; has only two layers – a front and a back (no batting); and is entirely stitched (quilted) by hand.

Patchwork pieces are also included, to strengthen worn places in fabrics.

Karen and Linda then shared their Kantha Sew Along quilts. Karen’s Kantha is 43″ x 65″ and hand-embroidered on the back with the words “savor the season.” Linda’s Kantha is 54″ X 75″ and hand-embroidered with the words “glad heart happy face.” More pictures and information about Linda’s Kantha is on her blog, here.
Favorable feedback was received about the program, “Domestic Machine Quilting with Rulers” presented by Linda @flourishingpalms. By our October 8 meeting, we anticipate having several quilting rulers available to check out from our Central Florida MQG library. As with all our library books, and rotary cutting rulers, quilting rulers will be listed on our site: See Library on the home page menu bar. Then choose Books or Rulers.
