2022 Luther Springs Retreat

Twenty-one of us shared a delightful two-and-a-half days/three nights at Luther Springs in Hawthorne, Florida.

Because we’re sewin’ in the chapel (and we’re gonna get ma-arried…)

Miss Sarah, the camp director and (extraordinary) cook, reminded us that we were her first group of quilters at Luther SpringsMay 11, 2015! Here’s the link to “Our First Retreat” blog post, if you’d like to see who was there. Happily, some of the faces remain familiar.

These are our smiling 2022 retreaters.

Top row, (L-R): Mel, Gwen, Janice, Judy, Patti, Kathy, Beth, Karen, Ardie, Mike, Betty
Front row (L-R): Linda, Mary, Mary, Barbara, Char, Karen, Irene, Carol, Sandi, Cindy

We’ve come a long way, baby! Nine members of CFMQG were first-time retreaters!

Working hard at their sewing stations were…. Ardie, Betty, Mike, Kathy, Cindy, Mel, Janice, Irene, Gwen, and Linda

Four “bag ladies” made the same project, the Sew Together Bag by SewDemented. Posing with Sew Together Bags over their shoulders (last photo) are: Mary, Karen E., Karen T., and Cindy.

Quilters with their in-progress, or completed tops, or completed quilts, in photo order are: Char, Carol, Beth, Sandi, Janice, Barbara, Judy, Kathy, Mel, Janice (with Mel), Patti, Patti, Patti (Yes! Patti was a prolific finisher!), and Cindy with the front and back of the same quilt.

Mike gave an impromptu lesson on using Karla Alexander’s “Oval All Ways” ruler.

Most of our retreaters participated in helping assemble our QuiltCon Charity Challenge Quilt. Special thanks to our coordinators Rosemary (unable to attend retreat); Karen T., and Betty! We completed the quilt top, and it went home with Ardie who will quilt it. Thanks everyone!

Who brings APPLES for a retreat snack table?! Mel!

When apples weren’t a “hot ticket,” she took some creative initiative and made them more appealing – Sloshed Apples? (What happens at quilt retreat stays at quilt retreat!) Thank you Mel and Cindy!

Suffice it to say that in spite of overcast skies, torrential rain, and little to no cell phone reception, we ate well and had a great time together.

A little too much quiltmaking, and a little too much chocolate are just about the right amount.
(Everyone is holding a Hershey’s chocolate miniature.)

Thank you all for helping us get to know each other better, make wonderful memories, and find out it’s okay for Central Florida Modern Quilt Guild makers to act a little goofy.

Let’s do it again in 2023! Mark your calendar now for another Luther Springs retreat!

Friday, May 12 through Monday May 15, 2023
… with Thursday, May 11 being a possible bonus day.
