August 13th Recap

There were 30 members and 2 guests at our monthly meeting in August. It was DEMO DAY! What is that you may ask? It changes each time we have it but this year, there were six presenters on a variety of topics. The presenters shared what they knew, things they have learned along the way and encouraged members to give it a try. The best part, available resources were identified.

Beth @blue_dragonfly5 shared an approach to turned edge applique called Appliquick,

Jane @gonequiltinginflorida shared information that she learned at Quilt Con 2022 regarding taking photos of your quilt and ways to provide more interest in your pictures.

Linda @flourishingpalms shared the basics of Kawandi based on a virtual workshop that she took from Sujata Shah.

Karen @sunrayatplay shared information that she learned at a workshop at Quilt Con 2022 on playing with color and value.

Shloe @dashquilting shared more information on her Dash quilting template and demonstrated with the templates.

Rosemary @franticquilter shared information on #Quiltersplaycation an Improv adventure on the direction of @cheryl_arkinson on Instagram.

Needless to say there was a lot of information and members had opportunities to ask questions for clarification, identify tools needed, resources available and maybe take away thoughts on how to implement these skills in their own sewing rooms.

Besides all the Demos – the library was open!

Our next meeting will be September 17 on the topic of Ruler Quilting. Note the change of date due to our Retreat. There will be Show and Tell at the September meeting. Don’t forget to complete the Show and Tell Form for the items you are bringing.

And for those members attending Quilt Con 2023 – Registration goes live on Tuesday this week at 10 AM Eastern Time.

Sew-In is this upcoming Saturday, August 20 from 9 to 3. Come for part of the day or all of it at the Oxford Community Building.

In the meantime – let’s make modern!
