Well, in 1962, Andy Warhol’s iconic Campbell soup cans made their debut. In 1877 the first Wimbledon Championship was held and in 1981 Nintendo released Donkey Kong. The real question is “What happened at the Central Florida Modern Quilt Guild Meeting on July 9th?”

We also discussed the Quilt Con Community Outreach Charity Quilt. After the meeting our President was approached by some individuals expressing a desire to move forward with this project and offered assistance. More information will be forthcoming for all the members to assist in the creation of our quilt. A little insider information – we will be doing the warm colors and we have a pattern. Fabric is being ordered.
SHOW and TELL
Shloe @quiltraven shared her TROPICAL TURKEY TRACKS a pattern utilizing Bloc Loc Flying Geese. Quilted by Susan Woodbury with a long arm.

Betty @zcabed shared her CIRCLE GAME which measures 71 by 71. This is based on the Circle Game pattern by Jen Kingwell. This quilt was hand pieced with the exception of the border and big stitch quilted.

Linda @flourishingpalms shared PARTY TIMES 30 measuring 24 by 24. This is an original design to meet the challenge rules as established by the Quilting Guild of The Villages who will be celebrating their 30th year anniversary in 2023. The design and colors are inspired by the QGOTV logo. Ruler quilted and big stitch quilted. It will be part of the Showcase of Quilts January 27-28, 2023.

Karen @sunrayatplay presented POSTCARD FROM SWEDEN a design that was inspired by Tom Fraziers IKEA Kort Art Cards. Karen used 36 different colors to make this 60 by 75 quilt that quilted on her Babylock Tiara. The pattern is free at stashfabrics.com and was designed by Kelly Liddle for Jeli Quilts.

Karen @sunrayatplay also shared her WAYWARD TRANSPARENCY a pattern by Yvonne Fuchs @quiltingjetgirl. This pattern using transparency as the focus element measures 32 by 32 and was quilted on Karen’s Janome 9400.

In addition to the above Show and Tell we had a few folks share their Giant Nested Circles and Interleave quilts.
Our educational topic was all about Improv. We checked out the definition of Improv, saw several resources that were available online at MQG as members and through Instagram. We also saw quilts and blocks created by members and heard a little more about why we should just try it – remember sometimes with learning new things, it is about traveling outside your comfort zone! We Make Modern!
