Whew! A Lot of Information

March 12 was our monthly meeting and the topic was a review of Quilt Con 2022. Lots of photos were shared, stories told and questions answered. Twenty six were in attendance. I sensed excitement towards Quilt Con 2023 in Atlanta, Georgia. Mark your calendars and get your engines ready for a close encounter with many beautiful, unique and amazing Quilts.

The members that attended Quilt Con identified their people’s choice as well as some of their other favorites. They explained what about the quilt caught their eye and why they wanted to share it with the group. To be honest – there is nothing like seeing a quilt in person!

Attached is the slide show that was shared for those that were not able to attend. There is good information within it including all the makers so you can do some internet exploring if something is of interest to you.

Attendees at the Modern Wedge Workshop, with Linda @flourishingpalms in January were asked to bring their projects in whatever phase they were in. Below you will see in order Courtney @courtneyastokes, Karen @yorkie3mom, Bonnie @bonnieb1952gmail, Barbara, Marcia, and Donna @donnapquilts

Becky @rchianese26 did not participate in the workshop but also made a verson of “Carousel” designed by Linda @flourishingpalms. In Becky’s quilt you can see how different fabrics can change how a print looks depending on what is next to it.

Show and Tell included Marie Woods creating a version of Falling Snow. It measures 39 by 47 and is a skill builder quilt for quilting on her Gammill Longarm. It inclues an inset circle and faced binding. She calls it “Don’t Eat the Yellow Snow”
The quilting, facing and inset circles were all firsts!

Linda @flourishingpalms shared her Seaglass Quilt and several of her Kawandi pieces. Seaglass Quilt measures 34.5 by 50 and is designed by Allie McCathren @exhausteddoctopus It was quilted on Linda’s Bernina 770QE and the pieces are all individually cut…just like sea glass. Linda share only five of her completed Kawandi pieces from a virtual workshop that she took in November 2020 with Sujata Sha @therootconnection Kawandi by Linda are hand stitched with size 12 pearl cotton. Kawandi starts on the outer edge and is worked towards the center.

Our next meeting will be April 9, 2022 at 10 AM. The ARCHITECTURE CHALLENGE REVEAL will take place. Send photos of your inspiration to Karen prior to the meeting to be included in the slide presentation. This will allow attendees to see what you saw before you made your work of art. It’s not too late to create something between now and April 9 – the challenge rules are on the blog from January 17th.

And of course there will be Show and Tell! Make Modern!
