February 12, 2022 Meeting Recap

Welcome new members Marilyn, Marie, Sandra and Dana! There were 41 in attendance at the meeting that was acutally a zoom virtual lesson with Cassandra Beaver on Aurilfil. Cassandra talked about the different weights of thread, the construction of Aurilfil and showed multiple uses of the various threads. Can anyone tell me what weight the orange spool is? And does anyone remember how many colors of thread there are?

Yes, the spools of Aurilfil are color coded and everyone who attended the meeting will receive a “swag” bag that includes information on Aurilfil and some thread to try out at home. Answers to the above questions can be found in the swag bag as well as at the Aurifil website.

Cassandra talked about the importance of mini quilts which allow quilters to try new techniques, figure out what works, identify what they like and then move it over to a big quilt with little lost in the creation of a mini quilt. That might be a good incentive for members to remember there is an architecture challenge that will be due in April 2022. Size can range from a 20 inch square on up!

A resource that you may want to bookmark – General information on Aurifil may be found at http://www.aurifil.com

In addition to the 90 minute presentation, members were able to sign up for two different workshops and check out library books and rulers. The INTERLEAVE workshop scheduled for April 23 is SOLD OUT!

Our next meeting will be March 12 at 10 AM. The program will cover trends, things learned and favorite moments from Quilt Con 2022. Those attending Quilt Con will be our experts for question and answer and provide incentive to plan for Atlanta in 2023.
