2022 Colors

Each December, Pantone releases its paint Color of the Year (COTY) for the upcoming year. Likewise, Robert Kaufman releases its Kona solid fabric Color of the Year (COTY).

Pantone’s 2022 Color of the Year is Very Peri. It’s a brand new color that Pantone created specifically for 2022.

Read more about the color on the Pantone website, here.

This is what the Pantone executive director says about Very Peri.

Pantone also provides a few color palettes, to inspire ideas for putting colors together, whether for the home, or quiltmaking.

Houzz, a popular on-line home decorating site recently posted a series of photos using Very Peri in home decor.

Spoonflower, an online custom fabric-printing company shared some of their designer’s Very Peri-colored fabrics. There are lots more on the site too!

Also, this is a good time to remind members that our Central Florida MQG logo fabric is available on Spoonflower. Here are some that are available.

To find our Central Florida MQG fabrics, search for etmcreative (Emma was our logo designer).

Anyway… we’re sharing this Information about the Pantone COTY because these colors are an opportunity for quilt makers to challenge themselves.

In fact, one such inspiring quilt maker is Debbie Jeske who has made a quilt with the Pantone Color of the Year for the past ten years! Find Debbie blogging as A Quilter’s Table here, and on Instagram @aquilterstable here. These are her modern beauties!

Each year, Debbie researches to find which brand of solid color fabric is most like the Pantone color of the year. Not an easy task! And 2022’s color may be even more challenging.

For those who are looking for less of a challenge, simply buy the 2022 Kona fabric of the year! This is Cosmos, Robert Kaufman’s Kona fabric Color of the Year.

Cosmos isn’t the same as Very Peri, but it’s pretty, don’t you agree? And it’s a color that also offers the challenge of choosing other colors to go with it. Even if you decide to use only a little COTY in a quilt, if you give it a go we’d love to see what you create in 2022!

Whenever you’re sharing pictures on Instagram (whether process pictures or finished quilt pictures) of a modern COTY quilt, be sure to include these hashtags: #coty, #centralfloridamqg, #cfmqg – and our best one – #wemakemodern

Personally, I’m looking forward to seeing many inspiring modern quilts in 2022. Will you be one of those modern makers? Linda
