What a meeting! Filled with discussion, questions, beautiful quilts and another published quilt in Currated Quilts by one of our members! Read on to see all the fun topics covered.

Nineteen members and one guest were present for the October 9 meeting of CFMQG. Karen @sunrayatplay led a discussion on “The Positive Side of Negative”
Several members shared some of their work showing off Negative Space and how their work added to the overall look of the quilt. There was lots of discussion and opportunity to look at Negative Space up close.
A variety of examples of Negative Space from Beth (photos 1 & 2), Jane, Karen, Linda and Marcia.
Not to mention, a completed “What’s Your Angle?” the CFMQG Charity Quilt for the Community Outreach Challenge associated with Quilt Con 2022. You can see the Positive Side of Negative in the finished quilt! Thanks to everyone who helped create this quilt of angles. Machine quilting by Ardie @fatquarteraddict and Betty @zcabed did the facing.

Show and Tell included Jewel Coasters sewn by Beth @blue_dragonfly5 from the Alexander Ledgerwood book “Improvising Tradition” This book is part of the CFMQG library. Beth used up her kona solids and did a quilt as you go technique.

Linda @flourishingpalms created ALL DRESSED UP from Kelly Young’s “Scrappy Improv Quilting”
Fabric scraps were used to create strata from which the bow ties were cut out. Quilting was on Linda’s Bernina and also big stitch hand quilting using Pearl Cotton 8. Linda will be a part of Kelly’s blog hop on Monday, October 18th.

Congratulations to Beth @blue_dragonfly5 for appearing in this month’s issue of Currated Quilts with her “Forces of Nature” as part of the Polygon Challenge.

Some of our members have been participating in the Finger Paints Quilt Along sponsored by Laura@quiltfortco which started August 30 and will end October 15th. They each chose a colorway to paint with and five members showed up with completed flimsies on Saturday. The same pattern with different interpretation! Below are quilts from Linda, Beth, Karen, Janice and Jane.

Our next monthly meeting will be November 13th at 10 AM. A reminder to come early to have show and tell photos taken and visit. We will have our Chip and Charm Challenge reveal! There is still time to make one. Challenge instructions appear in a previous blog. All are encouraged to participate!
We make Modern!
