September 11 Program

Twenty-six people attended our Saturday, September 11 meeting, including visitors Kay, Barbara, and Pat.

After a moment of silence to honor the 20th anniversary of terrorist attacks in the US, the meeting was led by Linda H. in the absence of President Karen.

Member Becky C. presented a wonderful program on the topic of “Faced Bindings.” Drawing different binding options on a whiteboard, she explained three different techniques and passed around samples of what she drew.

Becky also showed modern examples of each technique she showed.

Members were invited to bring to the meeting examples of faced binding.

Here, Becky holds up two faced binding examples belonging to Beth S. The small hexagon quilt on the right, finished in early 2013, is the first modern quilt Beth made as a member of Central Florida MQG.

The faced improv quilt on the left was made by Jane G. On the right, Linda H. is showing the facing on her improv “Zing” quilt.

On the left: Mike showed facing on the back of a modern jelly roll quilt. On the right: Pam P. showed a faced finish on a “Dream Big” panel, quilted on her Gammil Statler longarm.

Thank you, Becky, for sharing such an enlightening program with us! We all came away with new knowledge about our faced finished options.

Saturday, October 9 at 10 am is our next Central Florida MQG meeting.

The program is The Positive Side of Negative that will be presented by members Karen E. and Jane G. Members are invited to bring up to two modern quilts featuring negative space.
