CFMQG welcomed three new members on Saturday to their monthly meeting! Thanks for joining us. Several of our members are traveling at the moment, and they are missed, but we had 23 in attendance.
Items shared:

Carol H is one of the Northern Florida artists featured in the latest QUILTFOLK available at Barnes and Noble.
Retreat registration for the November retreat will be collected at the September and October meetings.
Be sure to unplug your vintage sewing machines. One of our members could smell something getting hot and the foot peddle on her featherweight was still “activated” although it appeared to be off.
The All Star Platter information for the Global Quilt Connection on October 2 and 3 will be sent via email for members wishing to participate. Check out possible online offerings after seeing what the teachers have to offer in a short presentation.
The CHIP AND CHARM CHALLENGE will be due November 13. You still have time to create a mini masterpiece using either chips or charms or a combination.
Charity Chairpersons Ardie and Betty provided “kits” to take hope and make a block or two. Individuals were encouraged to slice and sew with no fear as they had built in some “flex” room to square up the blocks for assembly.

Karen @sunrayatplay presented information on transparency and led the group in a hands-on exercise. Beth @blue_dragonfly5 brought in two of her transparency quilts, an art quilt and previous challenge from a guild challenge which included a random magazine page that allowed her to utilize the concepts of layering to achieve transparency.

To make the concept of transparency easy….think about the various values in monochromatic or analogous color ways. Pull the fabric and look at the big picture, is there enough change in value to allow the viewer to see the difference. Some blogs or Instagram posts to follow include Yvonne Fuchs @quiltingjetgirl and Carolina Oneto @carolina_oneto

Your color wheel is your friend…
Show and Tell for August included the following:

Cindy @cbubblesnsews used the mini hex n more ruler by Jaybird Quilts to create a baby quilt measuring 11 by 13.5. It’s called Mini Splash and quilted on “my Brother” domestic sewing machine.

Rosemary @daisys_driver used the Jaybird hex n more ruler that is in the CFMQG Library ruler to create Science Fair by Julie Herman. Quilted on her domestic Husqvarna the quilt measures 48 by 65. She used her walking foot and did a variation of a shattered glass.

Rosemary @daisys_driver shared her Queen size quilt (88 by 102)created during the Wanda quilt along with GE Designs this spring. Utilizing the stripology ruler there was little waste to the blocks and squaring the many blocks up was fast and simple. Quilted by checkbook with a bubbles pattern.
Our next meeting will be Saturday, September 11 at the New Life Christian Church at 10 AM. Our topic will be bindings, including how to face your quilt to maintain the infinity appearance.
