Meeting July 10

Twenty one members were in attendance at the July Central Florida Modern Quilt Guild monthly meeting. A review of Quilt Con Together 2021 virtual quilt show with the focus on Modern Aesthetics was the topic. There was opportunity for all in attendance to discuss various aspects of the winning quilts. In addition to obtaining a better sense of What Makes Modern, we also discussed the categories that quilts were entered and judged in. A reminder to everyone, Quilt Con 2022 in Phoenix will be in Feburary and the catalog for classes, workshops, lectures and the overall schedule may be found at Quilt Con. AND for those wishing to enter a quilt – the deadline is October 31, 2021. Details are at either Quilt Con or the MQG website.

Congratulations to Linda @flourishingpalms for a successful submission to Curated Quilts in their latest STRIPES edition. Don’t forget that the Central Florida Modern Chapter receives the Curated Quilts publication each month and it is available for check out from our library. Linda accepted the challenge of STRIPES and delivered “Dance Around” an original design measuring 14 by 14 in colors identified by Curated Quilts. It was quilted on her Bernina 770QE.

“Dance Around”

Another reminder to all members, our chapter has a variety of speciality rulers that can be used to create works of art on your schedule. Just like the books, you can check out a ruler and return it when you are finished. Both libraries, books and rulers, are listed on our website under the LIBRARY item on the menu bar!

SHOW and TELL – July

Show and Tell included a Mini QCR Table Runner using the Mini Quick Curve Ruler and a free pattern by Sew Kind of Wonderful. Linda @flourishingpalms quilted this 14.5 by 35 runner with her Bernina 770QE. She used solids only with Quilter’s Dream Green (recycled bottles) batting. The quilting combines rulerwork, walking foot and free motion skills. When you see the back of the runner it shows all of her efforts close up!

Betty @zcabed shared her quilt by accident. Participating in a block of the month program with another guild once she had assemmbled it she realized it was showing off some negative space with some twists on traditional blocks, thus an accidental quilt. Quilted by a friend.

“By Accident”

Rosemary @daisys_driver shared “Festive” by Aneela Hoey. It is 62 by 62 and was walking foot quilted by Rosemary with warm and natural batting. To be gifted to a family member.

“Festive”

Rosemary @daisys_driver also shared some “jewel box coasters” using scraps from a book owned by CFMQG written by Alexander Ledgerwood. Scraps can include a little fussy cutting too.

Our next meeting will be August 14 at 10 AM. The topic for August will be Transparency! Gather your colored pencils or crayons and if you have already made a Transparency quilt – bring that to share!

We make modern!
