May Meeting at Lake Miona Park: Part 2

We saw so many beautiful quilts, that the eye-candy has to be spread across two blog posts!

So, this is a continuation of May Meeting at Lake Miona Park: Part 1

Lynette @netsyclay used a five-inch “Wacky Web” template from Missouri Star Quilt Company to make these 11″ star hot pads for a family member.

She practiced different quilting designs on her Janome Memorycraft 8200.

This is Lynette’s 42″ X 52″ “Broken Star” quilt that’s a BOM offered by Diane Knott of Butterfly Threads Quilting. To make the quilt look more modern, Lynette moved blocks into a different layout with more negative space. It’s been pin-basted in anticipation of her domestic machine quilting.

Ardie @fatquarteraddict made many quilts when the pandemic first began. “Film Strips” is made with a favorite Alison Glass print that she could keep in large chunks as focal points. The quilt is 54″ X 73″.

Ardie also made this 58″ X 75″ quilt called “Labyrinth,” a pattern by @sewmanycreations. She quilts for herself on a Handiquilter longarm.

Margaret @redhotbobbin made “Little Buddy,” a 35″ X 41″ that’s her own design made with charm packs.

“Purple Mountain Majesties” is an 88″ X 91″ quilt made from a Delectable Mountain kit belonging to a friend. When the friend saw the finished quilt – and didn’t remember it – she asked Margaret, “Where did you get this pattern?”

“Triangulation,” 82″ X 94″ is an original design. Margaret quilts her quilts herself, on a longarm.

Linda @flourishingpalms took more than a half dozen virtual workshops during the pandemic. Two of them were with Maria Shell @talesofastitcher who lives in Anchorage, Alaska. Linda’s first workshop was “Line into Shape” that resulted in “Jazzed,” a 46″ X 51″ improv quilt. Different units are assembled in a “patterned improv” style. Fabrics are cut without the use of a ruler.

Linda had so much fun with patterned improv, she made another quilt – “Italica” is 72″ X 82″. Six blocks are based on the traditional “Old Italian” quilt block. The quilt is named for Italica Grondona, a 102 year-old woman (an “old Italian”) from Genoa, Italy who survived Coronavirus in March 2020.

“Zing”, 41″ X 46″ is an asymmetrical-symmetry quilt that reflects inspiration by four of Linda’s favorite things: an Iowa wind farm; her ukulele; the Bismarck palm in her front yard; and a favorite song: I’ll Fly Away.

Linda quilted these quilts on her Bernina 770QE domestic machine.
