Introducing… 2020-2021 Block of the Month

#cfmqgbom

You’re invited to join us for a year-long block-of-the-month (BOM). Beginning today, and every month until June 2021, President Karen will send members an email with step-by-step PDF instructions and videos to make two quilt blocks.

Choose to make one or both blocks – as many or as few as you wish – to make a quilt the size you desireI

This block-of-the-month (BOM) may be particularly attractive to those of you who would like to learn quilt-as-you-go (QAYG) to quilt this on your domestic machine. You’ll be able to easily quilt blocks, and when they’re finished, learn how to use strips to join blocks into a finished quilt.

These are the first two blocks: improv

Block 1 – The Sound Wave
Block 2 – The Magnum

Two weeks from now you’ll receive instruction to learn how to quilt that block. When two more blocks are introduced in the middle of July, you’ll use the same method to QAYG to make one or both. That gives you four weeks to make and quilt two blocks before the next two blocks are offered.

These are the basic quiltmaking techniques you’ll learn throughout making the Modern Sunset quilt:

  • Basic Patchwork Piecing
  • Improv Piecing
  • Strip Piecing
  • Foundation Paper Piecing
  • English Paper Piecing
  • Curves Piecing
  • Applique
  • Pixel Piecing
  • Log Cabin Piecing

CREDIT: This free, 2013 BOM was created by Alyssa Lichner @pileofabric.com of Gilbert, Arizona. All information, designs, and tutorial were made by Alyssa who pieces and quilts on domestic sewing machines.

Since one of the reasons we’re doing this BOM is to share quiltmaking while we are not able to meet in person, be sure to take in-progress, or finished pictures of your blocks and post them to Instagram. Use the hashtag #cfmqgbom so we can collect progress pictures to share here on our blog. If you can’t post to Instagram, email a picture and information about it.

If you’re ready to join-in, and want to know how to choose fabrics, here’s where to get started!

CFMQG members, watch your email box for each month’s link to instructions!
