Post Retreat Review

Beginning Thursday, May 3, 22 modern quilters retreated at Luther Springs in Hawthorne, Florida. Nearly everyone stayed until Sunday afternoon, and seven more stayed one more night, until Monday, May 7!

During our time at Luther Springs, we had the occasion to present to Miss Sarah (facility director) our 2017 QuiltCon Charity Quilt, “Paradise Central.”

This quilt was pieced by many of our members, and quilted by President Karen, and Linda H.

We donated the quilt to be used at the camp, as Miss Sarah desires. It may hang on the wall at the to-be-built new community room.

The retreat committee worked very hard, planning and making numerous little gifts for everyone. These are just a few of them: a spiral notebook cover, with notebook; a small basket with tissues; and homemade soap by Cindy. (We love her homemade soaps!)

Here, quilters were choosing mug rugs made by Mel.

There were a few impromptu lessons… Here Lora demonstrates freezer paper foundation piecing.

Linda H. gave a “Web” lesson and this is Peggy’s web.
Led by Mel, several quilters made blocks and/or assembled quilt tops. These four completed tops will be finished and donated to Quilts of Valor.
